A French Gilt Bronze Mounted Rouge Marble Covered Urns/Casolettes, Attributed to François Linke The pair is modeled in covered urn or casolette form with broad baluster bodies carved from rouge marble displaying dense white and pale gray veining throughout the polished surface. Each urn rises from a molded socle and circular foot mounted with gilt bronze bands and set upon a shaped marble plinth with chamfered corners. Domed covers surmount the bodies and are fitted with gilt bronze pomegranate finials composed of lobed fruit, seed details, and curling leaves. A gilt bronze collar encircles each cover with pendant leaf ornament arranged beneath the rim. Large scrolling ormolu handles emerge from the shoulders in openwork form, extending in elongated curves along the sides before joining foliate terminals below. The handles are cast with flowing acanthus scrolls, seed pods, and budding branches terminating in upright foliate sprays above the shoulders. Additional gilt bronze mounts frame the lower body with leaf clasps and scalloped elements, while the circular foot retains crossed linear ornament in relief.
