Pair 19th C. French Ormolu-Mounted Chinese Famille Verte Porcelain Covered Vases

Description

A Large Pair of 19th Century French Ormolu-Mounted Chinese Famille Verte Porcelain Covered Vases/Pot-Pouries, with Daoist Emblem Cartouches. Each vase is made of famille verte porcelain with ormolu mounts. They have a domed lid with a pierced ormolu collar and a gilt-bronze bouquet of flowers and fruits as a finial. The porcelain body is decorated with overglaze copper-red and gilt floral patterns set against a dense red and white ground, overlaid with shaped reserves featuring painted scenes of flowers, vases, and auspicious objects in polychrome enamels. The reserves are outlined in iron red and arranged symmetrically across the body. The upper shoulder of each vase is decorated with a scrolling foliate border in green, blue, and yellow, interspersed with ruyi-shaped elements. Below, a band of alternating floral and geometric motifs encircles the lower body above the foot. The foot of each vase is encased in an ormolu mount with openwork panels featuring a lattice and floral pattern, supported by four bracket feet with square ormolu plaques. The ormolu collar at the junction of the lid and body features pierced panels with repeating vertical motifs. The lid itself is decorated with overglaze copper-red and gilt designs, continuing the floral and geometric motifs present on the body. France, Circa: 1880
