A Pair of 19th C. Paris Porcelain Gilt and Portrait Painted Vases. Each vase features a neoclassical amphora form, richly decorated with gilt accents and hand-painted portrait panels. One side of each vase depicts a young woman arranging flowers in a serene pastoral setting, while the other portrays a young man seated with a book, surrounded by a tranquil landscape. The reverse sides feature two finely detailed portraits of women dressed in elegant Empire-style attire, one with a crimson shawl and the other adorned with a lavender sash and blue hair ribbon, set against soft, atmospheric backgrounds. The vases feature ornate gilt handles, designed as scrolling acanthus leaves with intricate detailing. Paris porcelain, also known as Vieux Paris porcelain, originated in the late 18th century and flourished through the 19th century. Produced by numerous small workshops rather than a single manufacturer, it was renowned for its ornate designs, rich gilding, and hand-painted decorations. France, Circa: 1840
