A Magnificent Pair of 19th Century French Lapis Lazuli Scagliola Vases with Ormolu Rope Mounts. Each is crafted from lapis lazuli scagliola and mounted with finely cast ormolu. They are shaped in a classical amphora form, with deep blue surfaces imitating the appearance of natural lapis lazuli. The ormolu mounts include an elaborate rope motif that encircles the upper rim and body, featuring knotted details and pinecone finials. Each vase is supported by a stepped ormolu base adorned with laurel wreaths and neoclassical ornamentation. The scagliola body has a polished finish interspersed with naturalistic veining to enhance the lapis effect. The ormolu ropework is cast to drape across the vase, with loops secured by decorative rings and floral rosettes. A secondary knotted rope wraps around the lower section, marking the transition to the flared pedestal foot. The bases feature intricate relief panels with scrolling foliage and stylized palmettes.
