An 18th Century Silver Mounted Mogul Hand-Carved and Beveled Rectangular Jade Box. The jade is the finest quality with a natural even green tone. It is beautifully hand-carved and hand-beveled with extreme precision. Each piece is hand-carved to fit one another perfectly with silver mounts which hold the beveled sections together. Each section is carved from one piece of jade, which is very difficult to find in this size. Jade of this size and color is highly prized and very difficult to find. Jade is a very hard stone and considered a semi-precious stone. To carve these pieces in the 18th century was a very daunting task and only highly skilled people were able to accomplish piece like these. Top quality pieces like this one are spectacular and rich in history and the silver mounts make this a standout and very unusual piece. The top of the box is attached to the lower portion with silver hinges. Mughal, Circa: 1790
