A Bronze Doré Mounted Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Covered Vase Turned-to-Lamp from the 1800s. A magnificent green and white porcelain turned-to-lamp vase adorned with purple, orange and yellow chrysanthemums, that symbolize happiness and vitality. A popular autumn flower in China, Chrysanthemums carry a special significance during lunar new year celebrations. Beautiful scrolls of teal green foliage cover all four walls of this square walled vase that is otherwise spotted sporadically with an occasional botanically referenced stylized leaf. The weight and translucency of the brightly colored enamels produce stunning gradations alluding to shadows in the details of the petals and leaves. Mounted as a lamp, the lower portion has a hand-painted trim of hanging clustered petals in shades of lavender, orange and teal. The vase is mounted with a gilt metal top and has two light bulb attachments with chains. This very good quality 19th century Chinese Famille Rose covered vase with classical Chinese scrolling motifs, foliage and chrysanthemums is supported by a set of elevated prepossessing bronze doré leaves that curl at the tips. On both sides, midway are curled leaf gilt handles perfectly positioned to not just be useful, but to also balance out the lamp in a way that creates harmony to the eye of the viewer.
