A large rectangular box formed from green opaline crystal, its shape defined by flat planes and chamfered corners that produce an octagonal profile when viewed from above. The hinged lid mirrors the body’s outline and fits flush at the seam. A continuous gilt bronze mount runs around the midsection, functioning as both hinge and clasp. The mount is cast and chased with a repeating pointed-arch pattern bordered by narrow beaded bands, with a small thumbpiece at the front for opening. The interior is lined in the same green opaline crystal, with the gilt bronze mount framing the upper rim. This large Baccarat green opaline crystal gilt bronze mounted rectangular box is a product of the French crystal manufacturer’s 19th-century production. The opaque green coloration was achieved by combining lead glass with selected metal oxides, producing a uniform, dense body. The precision-cut form was crafted to tight tolerances to accommodate the fitted gilt bronze mounts, which were made using traditional casting and finishing techniques by specialist Parisian bronziers.
