A Large and Rare Chinese 18th-Century or possibly earlier Patinated Bronze Bust of Guanyin This large Patinated Bronze Bust represents Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, portrayed with a serene and meditative expression. The softly modeled face is defined by gently arched brows, lowered eyes, a straight nose, and a subtle smile, conveying calmness and spiritual introspection. The elongated earlobes and refined facial proportions reflect the traditional conventions of Chinese Buddhist sculpture. Above the forehead, the hair is arranged in an elevated chignon, finely articulated with closely incised strands and centered by a small seated figure of Amitabha Buddha, the identifying attribute traditionally associated with Guanyin. The elaborate headdress is enriched with openwork scrolling elements that rise around the central figure and frame the upper portion of the head. Long ornamental extensions descend beside the ears, while the reverse is carefully carved with layered hair, ribbons, and a broad folded section at the back of the neck. The sculpture retains a deep brown-black surface with areas of greenish patination, wear, and exposed wood, giving the piece a richly aged appearance.
