Description

Pair of 19th C French Ormolu Mounted Chinese Celadon Crackle Porcelain Covered Vases. Each vase has a rounded ovoid form with a domed lid and a finial in the shape of a stylized floral element. The porcelain body is celadon-glazed with a crackled surface. The lids have a stepped profile with a narrow ormolu band encircling the lower section. Ormolu mounts are applied to the vases at various points. A continuous ormolu band runs along the upper edge where the lid meets the body. The sides of the vases feature ormolu mounts shaped as symmetrical, scrolling elements terminating in decorative masks. The lower sections of these mounts extend downward and are anchored to the base with additional ormolu ornamentation. The mounts are secured to the porcelain at multiple points. The vases rest on ormolu bases with a stepped profile, featuring a gadrooned lower edge. The ormolu is cast and chased, with defined ridges and sculpted details. The finials are attached to the lid by an ormolu mount integrated into the stepped design. France, Circa: 1880
