Highly Important & extremely Rare Pair of early Jeweled Italian Porphyry, hand carved Rock Crystal, and Dore Bronze three light Candelabra, mounted with various precious stones, including Rubies, carved amethyst and Citrine, late 1700’s to early 1800’s Roman. This exceptional pair of Neoclassical Italian candelabra are conceived as an elaborate combination of Egyptian porphyry, hand carved rock crystal, Dore bronze, and mounted colored precious stones. Each rises from a tall cylindrical porphyry shaft above a spreading polygonal base composed of matching porphyry panels framed by ormolu moldings. The upper section branches into three candleholders, with a central elevated nozzle flanked by two scrolling arms. These lateral arms are centered by crescent-shaped mounts enclosing finely carved rock crystal profile heads, while the candle cups and collars are further enriched with faceted crystal panels and jeweled ornament. The finely cast ormolu mounts are worked with acanthus leaves, foliate scrolls, beaded bands, and architectural details. At the center of each candelabrum is a prominent fleur-de-lis-shaped crest set with amethyst, citrine, and deep red rubies surrounding a dark central inset. The rich gilded surface contrasts dramatically with the deep reddish-purple porphyry and the translucent rock crystal. Additional carved crystal roundels are set around the upper and lower column mounts, extending the use of precious materials throughout the composition and creating a highly unified decorative scheme. Each stepped base is supported by three recumbent ormolu lions placed on projecting porphyry platforms, lending the design a strong sculptural and ceremonial character. The lions are individually modeled with detailed manes, expressive faces, and extended paws, while the angular geometry of the bases balances the movement of the scrolling branches above. Monumental in scale and remarkable for the quality and variety of its materials, this rare pair possesses exceptional architectural presence.
