A gorgeous and finely modeled Meissen porcelain figure of an elephant, beautifully rendered in a lifelike walking pose with its trunk raised in a spirited trumpeting gesture. The modeling is remarkably naturalistic, capturing the animal's wrinkled hide, broad ears, and powerful musculature with the anatomical precision for which the Meissen manufactory's animal sculptors have been celebrated since the 18th century. The figure is decorated in soft, naturalistic tones of grey and taupe, delicately shaded and finished with a lustrous glaze, the eyes finely picked out to give the animal a wonderfully alert expression. The elephant strides across a shaped rectangular naturalistic base simulating rocky terrain, subtly heightened with earthen tones.
