A Meissen porcelain White/blanc-de-chine Model of a Reclining Foal/Horse, Designed by Willi Münch-Khe, (1885 - 1960) A Meissen porcelain blanc de chine figure depicting a reclining foal, shown lying on its side with the foreleg raised and the head turned slightly downward. The body is rendered in a continuous white glaze, with the mane modeled in a braided pattern and the tail formed as a loop resting along the hindquarters. The limbs are arranged in a relaxed pose, and the surface is smooth throughout, emphasizing the contours of the form. The underside is with an irregularly shaped footrim following the outline of the model. The underside carries the Meissen crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, positioned near the center of the base. Additional incised markings appear beside it, including the model number A.1195 and a further impressed mark consistent with Meissen production numbering. These markings confirm manufacture by the Meissen porcelain manufacturer and identify the model designed by Willi Münch-Khe. Willi Münch-Khe (1885–1960) worked as a sculptor and designer known for animal models created during his tenure with Meissen in the early to mid twentieth century. His work for the factory focused on naturalistic studies of animals, produced as porcelain models in various scales. The blanc de chine version of the reclining foal corresponds to his documented designs for Meissen, which follow the workshop’s established methods of molded hard-paste porcelain and factory glazing processes.
