The jardinière is of monumental oval form, carved from Brocatelle Violette du Jura marble displaying variegated veining in tones of violet, rose, cream, gray, and burgundy. The deep basin is fitted with a thick rounded rim bordered by a twisted ormolu molding and raised on a marble pedestal foot above a square plinth. Four ormolu feet support the base, each cast with lobed ornament and retaining a matte and burnished gilt surface. The body is mounted with extensive dore bronze decoration, including floral garlands composed of roses, sunflower heads, berries, and foliate sprays extending along the curvature of the vessel. At the center appears a prominent Medusa mask cast in high relief, framed within a shield-form reserve and flanked by suspended floral swags. The sides are fitted with ring handles suspended from leaf-form mounts, the rings cast with spiral fluting and framed by upright architectural brackets terminating in pinecone finials.
