Antique Italian Neoclassical Grand Tour Period Green Porphory Circular Shaped Tazza/ Centerpiece on a Rouge Marble Plinth This antique tazza or centerpiece, formed with a wide circular bowl and a gently everted rim above a rounded underside. The bowl is raised on a turned pedestal set over a square green porphyry socle, all resting on a rouge marble plinth with a base. The polished green porphyry shows a rich dark ground enlivened by pale crystalline patterning distributed across the surface, giving the stone a layered and naturally varied appearance. Below, the rouge marble plinth presents a deep red tone with darker veining and a solid block form that adds weight and contrast to the composition. This piece is defined by the quality of its hardstone, with the porphyry selected for its saturated color, clear patterning, and even finish. The bowl is cut in a generous scale with a smooth interior, a consistent rim, and a well balanced profile. The pedestal and upper base continue the same material without interruption, while the rouge marble support provides a strong architectural foundation. Grand Tour hardstone objects in green porphyry are uncommon, particularly in this form and with such substantial proportions. The tazza remains in good preservation, with the polished surfaces, clean contours, and overall structure well retained.
