Palace Size Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Jardinière/Centerpiece attributed to F. Barbedienne, Paris This monumental 19th-century jardinière is of large scale, composed of a Chinese cloisonné enamel body mounted with French ormolu mounts Attributed to F. Barbedienne. The cloisonné vessel is decorated on a turquoise-blue ground with continuous floral and butterfly motifs, each outlined in gilt wire and filled with multiple enamel colors. The surface is patterned with meandering fret designs that provide a structured background for the blossoms and insects. The large bulbous form rests within a gilt bronze framework, emphasizing the overall proportions and scale of the piece. The ormolu mounts are finely cast and chased, consistent with the work of Ferdinand Barbedienne’s Paris workshop. The jardinière is fitted at the rim with an elaborate pierced gallery of repeating foliate and floral motifs. The lower mount features a circular band decorated with alternating patterns, secured with finely tooled borders. The base is supported by four elaborate legs terminating in scrolling acanthus feet. Between each leg, pierced scrollwork and a central acanthus medallion provide additional structural and decorative detail.
