A Large and Quite Rare Pair of French Louis XVI Period Patinated and Dore Bronze Figural Four-Light Candelabra with Ormolu-Mounted Rouge Marble Bases. Each candelabra features finely cast and chased ormolu elements and mounted on rouge marble bases. Each candelabrum is supported by two elegantly draped female figures in patinated bronze, their forms finely rendered with naturalistic contours and expressive detailing. These double-maiden compositions are exceptionally rare in 18th-century candelabra, particularly at this level of craftsmanship, where the figures display a life-like sense of movement and proportion. The candelabra's upper sections feature four candle arms extending from an elaborate ormolu arrangement. The arms, adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves, rosettes, and finely detailed beaded swags, culminate in eagle heads—an element often associated with regal and martial symbolism during the period. The candle nozzles are finely cast with gadrooned and fluted detailing, further emphasizing the exceptional quality of the ormolu work. The figures stand atop cylindrical rouge marble bases, which are enriched with finely chiseled ormolu mounts in the form of ribbon-tied floral swags and scrolling acanthus motifs. The bases rest on square plinths with additional chased ormolu elements, enhancing their overall grandeur. Candelabra of this scale and refinement, featuring double-maiden figures in the best quality patinated bronze, from the Louis XV period are exceedingly rare.
