Rare Set of 19th C Russian Blue Opaline Glass Decanter and Drinking Glass Decorated with 24k Gold/Platinum Decoration, Attributed to The Imperial Russian Glass Manufacture This refined Russian opaline glass set comprises a globular bottle with its fitted spherical stopper and a matching pedestal Drinking Glass. Both pieces are formed in a vivid cornflower-blue glass with a softly translucent appearance and smooth, rounded profiles. The bottle rises from a spreading circular foot to a narrow, molded neck, while the cup is shaped with a flared rim, gently swelling body, short stem, and stepped base. Their complementary proportions create a balanced ensemble suitable for a dressing table, bedside setting, or decorative cabinet. The surfaces are enriched with broad floral bands worked in gold and platinum. Dense clusters of leaves and blossoms encircle the bodies, combining warm metallic gilding with cooler silver-toned details against the saturated blue ground. Fine horizontal lines define the principal registers, and a delicate pendant border appears beneath the central decoration. Additional gilding emphasizes the bottle’s neck and stopper, including radiating leaf-shaped motifs around the rounded finial. The decoration shows areas of natural rubbing and tonal variation, consistent with age and use, without obscuring the overall pattern. Made in Russia during the nineteenth century, the set reflects the period’s taste for richly colored opaline glass enhanced by contrasting metallic ornament.
