An Empire Style Cobalt Blue and Gilt Porcelain Krater Vase, by Hutschenreuther. A cobalt blue and gilt porcelain covered krater vase with a stepped circular pedestal base. The base is decorated with a Greek key frieze in gilt over a cobalt ground, bordered by a gilt beaded edge and a band of scrolling motifs. Above this, the socle is adorned with a laurel wreath pattern and a gilt band separating it from the main body. The lower portion of the body features a gilt acanthus leaf border. The central body is cylindrical with a slightly tapered lower section and is decorated with a continuous gilt figural scene set against a cobalt blue ground. The upper edge is bordered by a gilt Greek key band. Two gilt scroll handles extend from the shoulder to the midsection, terminating in rounded volutes with small applied rosettes at the points of attachment. The interior is glazed white, with red script inscriptions along the inner rim identifying the subjects. The domed cover features a gilt laurel wreath band around the edge and a beaded gilt finial. The underside of the base bears a green printed mark for Hutschenreuther, Dresden Handmalerei. The cover is secured with a metal bolt and nut attachment visible from the interior.
