A Fabulous Napoleonic Green Sevres Porcelain & Ormolu Mounted Centerpiece

Description

A 19th-century Sèvres Porcelain and Gilt Bronze-Mounted Napoleonic Centerpiece Bowl, Featuring Hand-Painted Panels Signed "Georges Émile Poitevin." The front panel, framed by a gilt border with scrolling foliate motifs, depicts a court scene and includes a gilt inscription below that reads: "Née de J. R et B. Bonaparte." The reverse panel, also framed with a gilt border, presents a painted landscape featuring a garden path leading to an architectural structure, surrounded by flowering plants and an urn atop a stone balustrade. A continuous gilt laurel wreath motif encircles the reverse panel. The rim is encircled by a gilt bronze band with a raised relief pattern. Two gilt bronze handles extend from the rim and terminate in eagle heads. The handles are attached to the porcelain body with additional scrolling mounts. The interior of the bowl has a central gilt frieze composed of stylized foliate elements. The gilding throughout the piece exhibits a combination of brushed and burnished finishes, with polished areas creating a reflective surface, while matte sections provide contrast. The bowl is raised on a circular pedestal painted in the same green ground as the body, with gilt foliate ornamentation. The pedestal is mounted onto a gilt bronze base featuring a repeating shell and acanthus leaf motif. The structure is supported by a square gilt bronze plinth with a smooth surface.
