Description

A Fantastic, Rare, and Large 19th Century French Baccarat Ormolu and Crystal Centerpiece. The piece consists of two thick and dense crystal compartments, each framed with an ormolu border featuring a beaded edge. The crystal is highly transparent and has substantial weight, with vertical fluted panels on the lower portion and a continuous band of hand-cut foliate and berry motifs around the upper section. The compartments are removable and rest within an ormolu stand. The ormolu stand is cast with precise edges and features a flat rectangular frame with four corner supports. Each corner is fitted with an acanthus-leaf mount extending outward. The ormolu base is raised on four stepped feet with beaded detailing along the edges. The underside of the foot is marked with a Baccarat stamp. The construction allows for easy removal and reassembly of the crystal sections. The gilt bronze framework is designed to hold the crystal inserts securely, with the borders providing additional reinforcement. The combination of materials and their arrangement creates a structured and symmetrical form. France, Circa: 1880
