Description

An 18th-Century English George III Hand-Carved Mahogany Open Armchair. The rectangular backrest has a subtly curved crest rail and is fully upholstered, extending into padded arms that are secured by curved mahogany supports, each terminating in a square block joint at the seat frame. The seat is fully upholstered and bordered with brass nailhead trim. The mahogany frame consists of square-section front and rear legs, joined by H-form stretchers. The front legs are fitted with small brass casters. The seat rail is concealed beneath the upholstery, with the upholstery affixed using tacks along the edges. The chair is covered in a textured golden-yellow fabric. The arm supports are molded and curve downward toward the seat, with chamfered edges. The backrest upholstery is stretched over a solid frame. The underside is enclosed with a dust cover. The brass nailhead trim runs along the perimeter of the seat, arms, and backrest. The mahogany has a dark-stained surface with a polished finish.
