Description

A Monumental 19th Century Antique French Giltwood Floral Love Birds Mirror. Of large rectangular form, the mirror is very large. The entire frame and top are all made from hand-carved wood, which is all gesso and gilt with 24K gold. The top is fantastic, with hand-carved love birds perched on either side of the mirror. The top is magnificent with a hand-carved seashell, all in open-work with laurel leaves extending outwards from either side. The top of the mirror is decorated with three garlands of flowers and leaves, all hand-carved from giltwood. The entire boarder of the mirror is decorated with hand-carved flowers, leaves, and vines, which match the garlands at the top. The border is further adorned with gesso and 24K gold leaf as well. This piece is in antique condition and minor wear is expected. The upper left bird has a small nick to one of the wings. France, Circa: 1880
